On-going climate change will change both flow dynamics and availability of water resources on Planet Earth. From scientific information of projected changes and scenarios we can prepare society so that actions can be taken to adapt to the new conditions expected. Readily available maps of climate-impact data will give a quick overview to policy makers, while time-series of variables and indicators will help companies, authorities and consulting engineers in their work for climate-change adaptation of water management. Climate impact assessments can be done without having to run a full production chain from raw climate model results – instead the indicators can be included in the local workflow with local methods applied, to facilitate decision-making and strategies to meet the future.
The HYPE model provides both essential climate variables (ECVs) and associated climate impact indicators (CIIs). The latter is an aggregate quantitative measure used to show the impact of climate change on complex environmental phenomena in terms of trends and variability. The most developed climate applications below is for the global and the European domain, as these were developed as proof-of-concept for the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), which is hosted by the ECMWF on behalf of the European Commission. All data from these applications can also be retrieved from the Climate Data Store catalogue and further processed in its toolbox free of charge.
